My Cosplay @Anima… N.9869
Cosplay, costume play. Rumor has it : it was actually started in the US, copycat of Wolverines, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Aquaman, AndSoOnMan… Japanese saw how cool it was and told themselves « maybe we should do it, Manga style »! And there was the birth of this phenomenon, gotta confess I thought it came from Japan, dunno why, but it seemed so « yeah, of course they are the only one who can do that kind of stuff hehe ». But well, today, @Anima, the animation festival of Brussels, it’s Cosplay Time!
I came just out of curiosity, and it wasn’t a bad idea! Wasn’t really sure where was Anima Festival (totally missed that last year actually), and it’s actually close to the Radio Station where I shot Laid Back Crew a month ago, so I knew where it was. The cosplay is usually a contest, someone coming on stage, oftenly with a music, making a little show in front of the audience (and therefore the Jury as well).
Everything is scheduled, and so goes the act going with the character they are « incarnating ». We can see everything’s done in a nice spirit, no one’s laughing at the other, they are all here to have fun, to enjoy the costume they have created. Yes, ’cause the main thing about a cosplay is that you have to create your own clothes, following (or derivating e.g. the pokemons « human style ») the style of a Hero in a manga.
In the end, gotta confess I didn’t recognised a lot of people (too much difference in the generations maybe?), I know that one was coming from Naruto but not specifically the name or who he is (bad or good?)… I recognised Ariel the Little Mermaid, but that was easy. I got a brief History from one of the Helsing guy about what the manga is about etc… Yes, because you either perform as a « single » or in « group », 2 distincts category, worth seeing, both.
One of the cutest, because you need a lot of courage to go out there on stage was « the king leo », (what Disney spoiled to became the Lion king), the little kiddo, 8/9ish I’d say, arriving with the soundtrack of the credits of the serie, and dancing in front of everybody, that was quiet impressive, they were short in prizes (Cosplay is just like so not famous in here unfortunately), but I would have given him something, just out of respect to go into the Lion’s pit.
They are others people I didn’t have a clue who they were (eventhough they were introduced, in French and Flamish), but some were actually really nice, detailed, and you could see how passionnate those guys are!!
A small artistic company has also been setuped to help the Cosplay in Belgium, I’m sure it’s way bigger in France for example, but well, it’s just starting, and I’ll cross their path once again at the « Made In Asia » convention in 2 weeks! they were all so welcoming that well, if I can help with some pictures, I’m more than willing to go and take some nice snaps (They’ll be also at the BIFFF and that is just rocking!)

@lolly bien joué pr le preum’s! et changement ds l’heure du serveur, ce qui explique la différence qu’il y avait entre les 2 commentaires ^^
@msiou je te blâme pas, c’est bien aussi de faire ces courses! (et pas que des pizzas)
@kdfa ca dépend quel déguisement.. Moins.. si je trouve une peluche géante stitch elvis, j’hésite pas (tres sincerement, mais faut qu’elle soit classe)
@Tybo barf écoute, normal, 2009, tu es moins au taquet chez les autres pour le preum’s, pas grave va
