My Doomsday Premiere at BIFFF N.9540
After the huuuuuge week end I had, arrived back in Bxl at around 5PM (Summer time :p)… and decided that, yeah, I could make it to the BIFFF, the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, that started on Friday and will end in 9 days… wouhouuuuu!!!! 
and it’s the 26th edition… wow… never heard before.. but well.. why not ^^ And in the main hall, some nice make up work is in progress right now…
Apres l’extra week end que j’ai eût, de retour à BXL vers 5heures (pendule mise à l’heure d’été).. et décida que, ouais, je pouvais bien me permettre d’aller au BIFFF, le Festival du Film Fantastique de Bruxelles, qui commenca vendredi, et qui se finit dans 9 jours.. wouhouuu!!!! et c’est déjà la 26ème édition… wow.. pourtant jamais entendu parler… mais pkoi pas ^^ et dans le Hall principal, des artistes sont en train de faire de belles modifications uniquement maquillage…
And so, tonite, screening of, amongst others, « American Zombie », never heard? me neither.. but there is Suzy Nakamura, the main actress who’s there, so why not listening to her ^^ She was in the West Wing, Curb your enthusiasm, Evan Almighty and so on.. nice to see her when it wasn’t planned at all Fun & happy to be here, I’m almost thinking that it’s a shame I missed the movie now (even if Zombie movies is not at all my kind of movies like… at all!!!). Well.. will plan even more for next year 
Et donc ce soir, projection, parmi tant d’autres, de « American Zombie ».. jamais entendu?? moins non plus.. Mais il y a Suzy Nakamura qui est venu défendre son statut d’actrice dans ce film au festival, donc pkoi ne pas l’écouter? ^^ Elle a notamment jouer dans les séries « A la maison Blanche » et « Curb Your Enthusiasm », Evan tout puissant etc… Je crois qu’elle n’était même pas annoncée, mais pourtant elle est heureuse d’être là, racontant son aventure pr se retrouver sur ce long métrage de Zombie.. Suis presque dégouté d’avoir loupé le film du coup… promis pr l’année prochaine je planifierai vraiment suivant le programme
And I actually came in here to go and see the Premiere of « Doomsday », the 3rd film by Neil Marshall, Director of « the Descent ».. niiice ok.. got to admit.. it’s my first festival made « by geeks, therefore FOR geeks »… wow… I mean… really not my kinda of « atmosphere » I’m used to be in… but well.. why not ^^
Au départ je suis venu voir la Premiere de « Doomsday », le 3ème film de Neil Marshall, réalisateur notamment de « The Descent ».. la classseeuuuhh Ok, cela dit, je dois bien avouer que je ne suis pas foncièrement rassuré, car ca prends les allures d’un « Festival fait par des geeks, et pour des geeks »…. genre… waouh… c’est vraiment pas mon style « d’ambiance » habituelle… mais on va dire que je vais m’y faire hein ^^
OK.. So wha is exactly « Doomsday ».. it’s basically a survivor movies, full of willing references to the biggest hits of the genre, New York 1997, Zombie Films, actions movies..
Donc, c’est quoi exactement « Doomsday »… Pour résumer, c’est un survivor movies, appelant à des références de tous les films connus et/ou reconnu du genre, notamment New York 1997 évidemment, les films de Zombie, d’actions en tout genre, limite Absolom 2022, Le seigneur des anneaux etc…
With Rhona Mitra in it… who?? u know, the lady that was playing Lara Croft in Flesh & Bones before Angelina « Yes-I-can-pla-a-scientist-why-not…?-look-at-my-brain…-my-brain-I-said… » Jolie.. it’s really a love letter to the genre, totally seen as this and fun…. I got to admit that the director came to present the movie… allowing me to discover the « habits » of the festival… 1st one… the guest has to sing a song.. I wasn’t prepared at all, kinda astonished, but the director said « well, all of my movies, all 3 of ‘hem were aired here at the BIFFF, so thank you, and this is a movies made for you guys ».. I can’t agree more with him after having seen the movie!!! and he also sang « yesterday.. all my troubles seems so far away, cause the movie is just airing today…. » and everyone cheered in the theatre
Avec Rhona Mitra au casting notamment!! la plupart me diront « qui? » allons!! La version en chair & en os de lara croft avant les films avec Angelina « mais-oui-je-sais-jouer-une-scientifique-regardez-mon-cerveau….-mon-cerveau-j’ai-dit!!!! » Jolie.. C’est vraiment une lettre d’amour au genre, codifié a mort, tres bien monté, une photo sympatoche, un design qui ne fait vraiment pas cheap… Le réalisateur vînt donc présenter son film, me permettant de découvrir les « habitudes » du festival.. la 1ere étant qu’un invité venant présenter un film se doit de chanter une chanson, je n’étais vraiment pas préparé, mais le réal a dit a quel point il était heureux d’etre venu présenter tous ses films ici ( »tous les 3″ sic), et que ce film était fait pr ce genre d’audience, d’accro qui comprendront les references et les clins d’oeil, je ne peut qu’etre d’accord apres l’avoir vu… et il poussa la chansonette, enchainant par des cris et des applaudissement des 400 personnes dans la salle principale… wow
Honestly, really violent it was, with a basic moto like « if it’s alive, it can blow, bleed, burn, tear, dat’s for sure ».. and so it was, the script is thin but we’re not asking him to be huge, anti-state blablabla, naaaa, just give action sequences, and they’re all in, one to one, explosions, car chasing, sword fights etc… just loved it… but I got to admit that the crowd around me probably made it easier to love the movie.. Because it’s simple.. a poor bunny is almost nuked by an automated gun?? everyone cheering and clapping ^^ kinda love this festival already :p
C’est quand même franchement violent, avec comme leitmotiv de base, quelque chose du style « si c’est vivant, ca peut exploser, saigner, bruler, se déchirer, alors autant se lâcher.. » et ce fût le cas, autant le scénario est sympatoche mais n’amene pas non plus une grande reflexion anti-étatique ou autre comme on aurait pû le penser, là, des séquences d’actions, avec les classiques un contre un, explosions, poursuites en voiture, combat d’épée etc… Juste un bonheur… Bon, faut dire que le public y a aussi surement fait pour beaucoup, si je résume, un pauvre lapin se fait littérallement exploser par une tour de guet a fusil automatique, la salle s’emporte, applaudissant et criant…. ^^ c’est drôle, je commence à aimer ce festival :p
Then there was the Q & A with Neil Marshall, the director, really nice guy, happy to be here, in Brussels, to show his movie, that didn’t really convinced the US box office, but well.. still nice to have him, who directed « the descent », one of the really good horror/survivor movies of the the 2K years…
Puis les Questions/réponses avec le réal, vraiment cool et sympa, heureux d’être là, à Bruxelles, pour faire découvrir son film qui n’a pas spécialement convaincu le box office US, mais bon, on va pas lui en vouloir, « the descent » étant un des meilleurs films dans le genre Horreur/survivor des années 2000…
OK.. I’m now sure I have to come back to the BIFFF, looking at the events, I’ve missed Alex de La Iglesia (but i knew about that), Andy Serkis didn’t came after all (yay!! meaning I didn’t missed it), will miss Sion Sono (director of « Suicide Club »), because i’ll be seeing #1 that weekend, but i know what i’m going to see next.. we’ll talk about it soon don’t worry :p
Du coup je suis sur que je reviendrais au BIFFF, en voyant les invités, j’ai loupé Alex de la Iglesia (mais ca je le savais), Andy Serkis n’a finalement pas pû venir, je vais aussi manquer Sion Sono (réal de « Suicide Club ») parce que je vais voir #1 ce week end là, mais je sais qui je vais voir pr la prochaine séance.. on en reparle très vite (ou pas.. vu ma cadence dans les posts) :p
