Kaki King is the only female artist seen as « god of guitar » by Rolling Stones Mag… I mean EVER! Where’s my beloved Gabriela from Rodrigo y Gabriela?? Pffff… Anyways, never heard that much about her before… But one day, a friend mentioned « u’ve seen? Kaki King’s coming to the AB! ». Actually didn’t need much more to get my ticket, after all, if it’s has a good discovery than Pascale Picard was, im all for it! So Guitar Time, talent on the small stage of the AB Club (saw The Black Kids there), get ready to dive into a world of sounds and sonority that will make you travel far… and having thousands thoughts crossing your mind…

So here I was, at the AB Club, waiting for M’am King (yes, she’s 30 but I call her M’am :p) to come on stage. Arrived early. (I swear, the « Rachael Yamagata incident » will never happen again, ever. And yes, I’ll keep on saying that to really make it happend this way). On my left, a typical scene of why I love Belgium so much, 2 people (one lady, one man), obviously fan of Kaki King -saying to someone who was trying to take all the pedals on the floor in pictures- « you know, if you’re looking for the one from Kaki, it’s the other one there » « yeah, i’ll see her 4 times…. yesterday in the Netherlands, today here, then Paris… »

And a Belgium guy comes in to get to close to the stage, and obviously everyone starts to talk alltogether « yeah, i’ve seen that band, was really cool and have you blablablabla ». The interesting part is when the Belgian guy says « do you want a round of drinks on me? ». See. That’s why i love this place, people are nice here, chatting, talking etc etc (yes, i’m playing the « i just hate paris » card here)

In a previous post, I said that most Flamish Artists where actually singing in English, probably easier. Well, tonite proved me wrong. Tom Pintens is actually singing (and talking, and joking) in Flamish, weird for once to really go to a concert, not knowing any songs, but even more just not understanding anything he’s saying at all. I just got sentences like « in charleroi » -charleroi being the name of a Belgian city- because it was the chorus of a song… hehe ^^ well. Weird, but fun! Time to wait for the small cute brunette with fingers that speak for themself.

I got to confess I didn’t expect her to be so short (rumor has it 5′1″/ 1.52m), she makes a nice gesture « ok guys, just before starting, can you make all the short people come in front » so i look behind and someone is actually trying to cross the crowd « there you go, thanks, I just wanted to do that before starting ». And so the concert starts. Her sitting on a chair, plugging her instrument (that is not a guitar per say, it for sure as a way more technical name but I can’t say which one).

And so the magic starts to come. Music, but less « gimmickish with a strong chorus » than what i’m used to see, here, it’s very deeply technical, loads of lyrical high moments. You just have to dive into the music, and just imagine… keep your thought making you leave for somewhere else… I’m really impressed by all the emotions that came along that nite, sadness, then joy, remembering faces, moments, people, small looks I could have seen, little attentions from someone to another one, all those small things are just melting at the same pace than the tracks…

She’s on stage with a drummer and another guy, the drummer is just really good, damn, the other guy is trumpetist, and also having another weird modern trumpet (best way to describe i’d say). And they are all playing with notes and tunes in a confy mood. You know, the one that just makes you feel happy to be here.

Well, once again, I got to admit that on some parts of her gig, she lost me on the way, once again, technical, impressive, but not into it for me (a little bit like an ex who was fan of Dreamtheater, na, really not for me at all!). Over all, the t shirt showing her left shoulder, the fingers flowing on the guitar, the smiles, the quietness and contemporary of some songs.. I’ve think a lot during this hour, weird, Nostalgic as much as realising what went through the last year and a half…

Maybe not all what I expected, might should have done or say stuff when I wanted to, but overall, I don’t complain, I never complain, just the way I am. Kaki on stage will taste the Stella Artois that the Ancienne Belgique gave her « ok.. This is like… sooo not good » -crowd shouting obviously- « no, really I mean c’mon, it’s like…. Budweiser of Belgium!.. I want the beer made by the monks you know.. where only like… God has the receipe ».

A shame the friend that told me about her couldn’t get tickets (and i warned him but well…). Over all a nice nite, even got an autograph at the end, going in my bathroom with all the other posters of bands I have seen…

Thanks Kaki, ’cause you made me think, now it’s time to go further in those thoughts, even if it will probably never be doable per say, but at least I might have tried.

In My Ears : Les Cowboys Fringants -Les Hirondelles- ♫ « L’image que l’on donne/ N’est pas toujours la bonne/ Volent, volent les hirondelles/ Même les beaux plumages/ Peuvent être une cage » ♫

I remember… I remember I had a left knee, I remember I didn’t had cramps in the right legs all nite long, I remember I didn’t get tossed away in a 2k crowd, I remember I wasn’t missing 2 pieces of my camera, I remember I used to not remember what was like to be jumping with a full crowd on a track, I remember I wasn’t a big fan of taking concert pictures, I remember I wanted to be Irish and not Scottish. I remember there was a time I didn’t spend 75 minutes with Franz Ferdinand @AB in Brussels. I now know that it was a rollercoaster right into my face, and I didn’t saw it coming (at least not that much). Now I just want a 2nd round of it.. pleaasse, let me do one more round!

Of course Franz Ferdinand was Sold Out at the AB in a glincah after the opening of the tickets sales. Of course I couldn’t have one (like 20mn and they were all gone), of course, I was lucky enough to see an ad on the page of this concert saying « i sell a ticket », oh oh oh.. it was just for me, so thanks to François, I had the golden ticket to see the scotts on stage. Support act was called Kissogram (germans it seems). Weird but interesting electro-rock. But well, not enough moving shoulders even a little bit, hard beats, nice, but well… It will be nothing compared to what’s coming next.

 Indeed, the 4 scotts arrived on stage, luckily enough i’m really close to the stage (and no security fence at all.. wow). They start by « Come on Home », his guitar gimmick, is bass clearly present, the pit ignites almost instantly, and for once, I was kind enough to leave my jack at the cloackroom (which at the AB by the way is just something like heaven, I swear, and I’ve done loads of gig places!). Sound like, it’s actually not bad, sound engineer should be good, even if the voice of the lead singer (alex for us, fans) is maybe a little bit overwhelmed in the slap of energy that is coming into our  head on a bi-second basis.

 Almost without the slightest silence in between, « Do you want to », one of the main hit of the 2nd album, keeps everyone jumping. You know, this kind of crowd where you don’t have any room left that whatever happens, you just don’t have the space to fall, it’s purely mathematic, nothing will happen if you follow how the crowd is moving. When the chorus comes « to do do do do do », now it’s jumping time, same stuff, you pretty much have to jump if you don’t wanna die under broken ribs made by knees, elbows in the eye etc etc… Yes, it’s pretty tough :p

« No you girls » from the new album sets up the tone that will go through the whole set on stage, pretty much no interruption between songs, just turning people wild, coming closer to the audience, smiling, being astonished as most of the artists who are coming to Belgium how much Belgium crowd is just soooo amazingly wonderful. « The dark of the matinee » and « twilight omens » will follow, crowd singing, good times, sweating, looking if I didn’t lost anything because it’s moving so much.. Right stage.. no.. left stage.. no.. in front.. in back.. jump.. left… jump.. right… wowww… guys… let us breaaaatthhhhh

  »Walk away » and « The fallen » are really the ideal intro to the tubesque « Take me out », I tried to shoot a video, but it just wasn’t possible, people shouting, dancing, arms in the air, sweating like they just run a marathon, this is definitely almost the  symbol of a whole generation that discovered new british talents at that time (that was like 5 years ago, seems way further than that). And this guitar, like a sting, giving the whole rythm, simple, clear, efficient. Love this track, can barely focus on the voice because the whole crowd is actually in communion with the pit and with the band. This is just a strange feeling, and it’s not the first « moving concert » I saw.

  »Turn It on » is quieting a little bit the audience, time to breathe, to realize that well, we’re all already pretty heavily tired, but we’re ready to go to do another round anytime, you know, this time where you just don’t give a f*** about what’s your job, age, weight, social situation or whatever, you’re just someone else on a crowd that is having the blast of the month, enjoying. I know it’s the same for me, at this exact moment, I just don’t care I will be barely able to walk when I’ll get out of here, i’ll sleep just a couple of hours, mostly in pain, before going to work, here, Nothing matters. The pain’s gone. And THAT is a great feeling, that is why I still have my wristbands on the left wrist, the ones from the Ardentes as well as the one from the Eastpak Tour in Antwerp ( »built to last » is written on it). Never foget. A small reminder of how sometimes life can be, simple but sufficient per itself. Right now, I’m just a guy painless in a crowd, and I’m happy with it.

« 40 ft », the guitar sound is just enough to start to make everyone move, « Bite hard » as the same effect, and the awesome « Ulysses » arrives. This beat, like a nitelife moment (the music video is great about that, just like stuff happening on the pavement at nite, we’ve all experienced it), all the temptations you can have and you wish you had taken. Those kinda nite you remember for a long time because either vodka red bull made you cross the line and give it a shot where you actually didn’t wanted to at the first place (how’s that it’s something i’ve experienced? wanna see me do something stupid, gimme vodka red bull. « you wanna do something stupid? » « do me. I’m stupid ».). Dunno why, this is exactly what it reminds me, this gimmick coming back like the « don’t you roll your eyes at me like that ».. mouah ah ah.. was so cute.. we were so young ^^ *shrug*

« Lucid Dreams » is next, and is way different that what we were used to. It finishes in a real electro style, all the guys actually creating the main beat on the drums, each one on one of the drums. Didn’t expected it, but it turned out very very very well indeed, but once again, they are here, smiling and smashing on this drum. Really really impressed gotta confess. And a moment where Alex is « offering » the guitar to the crowd, everyone wanting to touch it, nice memory, communion with the audience of artists who are happy to deliver a consistent and well built set.

 The encore will be « what she came for », and it just seems anecdotic in regards of what is coming next, « outsiders », but the last and final track will be « this fire », and for sure, this sets up the audience on fire. I swear, It just absolutely incredible. Once again, the crowd, the whole pit as much as I could see it, moving, singing, jumping, taking the last gasp of this powerful gig, exhausted, but damn happy. Wow, this gives me almost goose bumps just thinking about it. That was a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiild nite!

 Right now, Alex is crowd surfing, owww, he didn’t went very far, but well, you didn’t see that often, and it’s always a good sign about the spirit of the guy and how he is not having any issues with people singing the same lyrics as him. Right now, time to go back to car, I’m really going at the speed of a turtle.. damn it’s gettin’ difficult, kinda dizzy by everything that is running through my thoughts right now… you know, that kind of state where you are on the pavement, even without any alcohol in your body, and you wish you could still shout, scream, dance, jump, and doesn’t care at all… This temp euphory that makes you wanna give your smile to the whole world.

 Right now, I wanna make love all nite long… Right now I want some people to realise how much I love them, Right now I wanna be scottish, Right now, I remember why I’m 27, happy, not perfect for sure, but passionnate about everything I do. Because I dig it, because i’m proud of making pictures that people might like eventhough they’re aren’t that awesome. Because I’m the way I am, a stranger in a foreign land, who just loves to have so many things going on in his life, even if, at the end, we never know what tomorrow will be made of. But don’t worry, life is easy, life’s great, life is having up & downs sometimes, but in the end, just remember how many good moments you had, it’s the only one who are lasting anyway, bad moments are difficult, usually heart breaking and pain creator, but they go away. Le temps détruit tout. I’m ok with that, but just the bad stuff, moments that are a melt of magic, surprise, astonishment, smiles, love, feelings, are made to never be forgotten.

The Script, 3 piece Irish Band, who just came out with a self titled album (i.e. « The script » what a surprise yaaaaayyyyy). 12€ in one of my favorite venue in Town, for something really different from what I’ve seen this last couple of weeks, between Noise sound of Parts & Labor, Mcing Puppets of Puppetmastaz, Sweetness of Woodpigeon, Pure inflammable Rock from Bloc Party, Electro from Delphic, beeps from Metronomy and so on. Here.. pop.. but like.. pop… I arrived early as usual, it wasn’t soldout, but the venue was let’s say 80% full (which is 1500ish personn I’d say right..?). I was one of the few with no bracelets on the teeth, one head above everybody, a beard… yeah.. You got that right.. I was trapped in a girlie concert, and I actually didn’t see that coming honestly… (but to spoil, in the end, it was a lot of fun, I swear).

What was going to happen is oddly enough why I love going to gigs like that. Yes. At some point I’d say… Am I old enough to go on the 1st floor like this mid-40’s couple I see? Naaaa… C’mon, just turned 27… which is 10 years more that all the people directly surrounding me, but I just don’t care, I heard at the album, I liked it, why not give it a shot afterall. « The Script » blanket are on the drums and so on… I barely see the set that is already here, a speaker allowing me only to see a part of the illustration on the drum. As a waiting music.. Coldplay.. Weird.. it gives me goose bump.. being in a gig place listening to some Coldplay, just memories like that.. what can I say *remembering the butterflies.. sigh*

And another surrealist moments arrives, just some notes, everyone recognize « chasing car » by Snow Patrol. Everyone starts whispering at first, then singin’.. but like.. singin’.. unreal I’m telling you. Sometimes I wonder why the crowd here makes me love going to venues that have that kind of spirit. So far away from what I’ve seen abroad. Not always perfect of course, but usually a lot, I mean, a lot, of fun. Then will arrive as a supporting act : Gary Go : Brit, hype glasses, Beckham hair style (dunno the year, he changed so much over the year you know… hehe), but don’t stop to that, this guy got talent, catch phrases, and a nice attitude that makes everyone move, sing, shout.

I don’t blog often since a year now let’s say. I don’t often talk about the many concerts I’m going to (65 last year my lucky guess would be). I don’t often (meaning never), talk about the supporting act I’m going to see. My post are already way too long « as is » (et non « azziz » lumière.. french humour.. ). But here. I can recall the really good supporting act I’ve seen, randomly I’d say Delphic (bloc party gig), Luciole (Camille gig), Krystl Warren (Rodrigo y gabriela gig) or Pepper (Floggin Molly, 1st out of 3time last year). I can recall bad ones as well (for many and oftenly unrelated reasons), the Luxemburgish Group before PWT’s, the « I don’t give a crap and I don’t recall ur name » (Cat Power gig).. and so on. Here. It will go on the « damn good side, cya back on the road very soon! ».

Gary Go, Self titled album to come out (somewhere around May I think), but damn, happy to be here, smiling, a thousand people in front of him, clapping, singing, just happy. And happiness, right now, it’s really a nice feeling to share. Thought I could share a little piece of my joy with who wants to, so here it is. The last track was « wonderful ». Careful, might be the thing that will last in ur mind. I definitely know some people I could call « miracle » in my life, I never tell them enough how much they are important to me… Even if the person reads this, doesn’t mean the person will know I’m talking about him/her, but well… part of the deal.. the people I’m like coding stuff in here never understands what I can’t say face to face anyway.. i’m used to it know hehe ^^. Back to Gary, « Filming is life » as he said, welcome to Brussels, which is not my Hometown, not my Country, I always said i’ll ever feel more Irish than Belgium, but tonite, I’m welcoming you with everybody, and discovering some nice lyrics, arrangement, everything is not perfect, but we just don’t give a 2nd thought to it, Arms in the air, waving, ♫ « It took some time to realise/ But it just occured to me/ That what we have, is what we choose to see/ There’s nothing to stop us/ To lose it all » ♫ -Hearts and soul-

Already, this is a night well spent, I’ve discovered an Artist, now waiting for the album, but it’s always special when you first see someone live then hear the album. But you’ve got the whole deal hear, nice musicians, changes in the rythm/tempo, produced well with loads of nice arrangements/settings.. really good stuff… I finish also sharing a « Say I ammmm wonderfffullll…. »… and will arrive on stage The Script.

First the scene… A huge speaker, keyboard on it, I’m guessing it will be Danny O’Donaghue (yes, Irish Band I said), on the left, guitar, somewhere on the far right of the scene (opposite of me) a drum set, I might see bits of the drummer, but that would be all, and a bassist behind the keyboard, the same, way to close, huge speaker in sight, not sure i’ll even take a picture of him..

And the room goes dark.. I lost 8/10th of my  hearing capabilities.. Think I’m actually at a Michael Jackson, a Spice Girls or a Tokio Hotel (choose depending on ur generation hehe) concert, surrounded by groupies (and no, I see you who wanna ask if I screamed, no, I didn’t, commmmme on!).

They are all coming on stage.. one by one… And will start « Before the worst »… arrfff.. got to say that those lyrics are just talking to me. Replace Coke by Red Bull, and Vodka, Guinness, Grafton Street, love was a part of my life Back in Dublin.. And hearing Grafton Street echoing in the AB I was just.. woowwww… Sound is ok… He has wayyy to much reverb on the voice (even I could hear that, and I’m not THAT of a melomane.. ). But damn a nice start!  ♫ « It’s been a while since the two of us talked/About a week since the day that you walked/Knowing things would never be the same/With your empty heart and mine full of pain/So explain to me, how it came to this/Take it back to the night we kissed/It was Dublin City on a Friday night/You were vodkas and coke, I was Guinness all night [...] It was Grafton Street on a rainy night /I was down on one knee and you were mine for life » ♫

Then « Talk  you down », nice, chorus of course sang by everybody, « Break even » is next.. and ok guys… stop making come back memories ok… I’m all over that period of my life now… Weird to see how sometimes lyrics are just talking to you, doesn’t matter the time or the place… And yes, gosh I didn’t believe it, but she was right (as usual I might say, but she knows it), a blog is personnal, I’m talking too much about myself, shouldn’t, but well, that’s just how I am… and I definitely don’t say all what I want to, that’s a fact  ♫ « What am I suppose to do when the best part of me was always you/ what am I suppose to say when i’m all choked up and you’re OK/ I’m falling to pieces« ♫

« The end » is almost anecdotic compared to the « We Cry » they will sing. « this is a song that starts everything back home », I can imagine why, definitely   And a song that says that we are all equals in pain, but it’s just a better place when you know that not far from you, someone can help you, eventhough that person is also dealing with problem. Sharing is making everything possible. « if you see kay » is more ballad like, and with a strange different tempo, the guitarist making some of the back voice, but quieting the crowd (a nice idea after the mayhem from the previous tracks)

« fall for anything », more piano like, be he’s actually pushing a lot of his voice (or so it’s what his veins on his throat are making us believe), still in tunes though ^^ « the man who can’t be moved » will then ignite once again the place. And raise a good question. If I know someone would be looking for me, would I know where to go for sure so that this perso will find me? nice question.. very nice… Might have an answer, but it probably actually depends on which person would be lookin’ for me… But I god an idea hehe ^^ (ok, I’m the only one wandering is that it, I’m sure no one else here knows where they would go.. honestly…?!?!?!?) ♫ « Cos if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me, /And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be, /Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet, /And you’d see me waiting for you on the corner of the street./So I’m not moving… » ♫

« Rusty Halo » is entertaining, but gotta confess that the g string written « rusty halo » on the merchandise stuff kinda disturbed me  :[  but well, they politely say goodbye, the audience is going crazy (I should have recorded that, I swear, wow scream and everything you want, but damn good audience).

They'll come back, just with a guitar and sat down for Danny to sing. And damn, Damien Rice style (voice being way different), it's just a very nice, quiet stuff to finish the gig, and here, I just love the voice he's having, more calm, more present, maybe even more sincere because of that... it sound like 90's take that lover's time track, but it's just sweet  ♫ "I may not have the softest touch/I may not say the words as such/And though I may not look like much/I'm yours."♫

It wasn’t the last track actually, they had a cover of « we can be heroes » on their luggage… and it’s quiet something gotta say, ok. Damn it, I started not that into it at all, and 2 grand bands made me happy to be here. Quiet sum-uping (and yeah, this word doesn’t exist.. so wha? :p ) me right now, an irish band with sweet lyrics and general mood, me taking pictures in a venue I like, and discovering some new stuff.. yeah.. it’s really a nice sum up (including the issues lyrics brought, but that I won’t discuss here obviously).

Gary go, cya soon, and will look for your cd, The Script, way to go, Slainte, and cya in a couple of years! And if u went all the way down to this long post, just congrats to you, cya on the next post ^^

Donc ce soir, les Counting Crows, ceux qui en tout et pour tout n’ont connu qu’un seul succès radiophonique avec « Mr Jones » est de passage à l’AB, la salle que j’aime sincèrement et où j’ai vu  Plain White T’s, The Cult, KT Tunstall, The Kills, et les Flogging Molly.. Ce soir, je m’y attendais, mais pour de nombreuses raisons, le plaisir allait être présent… Non seulement pour ce qui se passait sur la scène, que ce qu’il se passait un tout petit peu plus bas, dans la foule, toute acquise à ce groupe qui, hormi le talent, possède un cœur qu’il aime partager… Une opération à cœur ouvert vers les sentiments et un petit bout de bonheur en terre Bruxelloise…
So, tonite, the Counting Crows, those who have, true story, only one hit single with « Mr. Jones » are coming to the AB, the concert place I’m secretly in love with. Since February, I saw  The Plain White T’s, The Cult, KT Tunstall, The Kills, and the Flogging Molly.. that’s a nice ration Gig/month I think   Tonite, I was expecting it, but, for many reasons, pleasure will be there… Not only for what was going on for the Stage, but also a little bit lower, in the crowd, that was in love with those musicians.. Like a open heart surgery towards feelings and a small piece of heaven in Brussels area…

J’ai loupé la première partie, c’est au fond suffisament rare pour le signaler, je quittais tard le Studio, je ne trouvais pas de place, je sympathisais cela dit avec la Roadie qui vendait les T-shirts et autre goodies… C’est dingue comme desfois tout parait simple, un sourire, une bonne entente… C’était le début de soirée, et elle commençait très bien…
I’ve missed the support act, wich is not often at all… I left the studio late… Didn’t find a spot to park… I talked with the roadie who sold tees and other goodies… (i’ll finish ending up with the tee on the Right and a smile)… Strange how sometimes things seems easy, a smile, a sentence… It was the beginning of the nite.. And it all started very well…

Avec seulement quelques minutes de retard, les Counting Crows, formation créée dans le début des années 90 (lire Nonante pour faire typique Belge) arrivent sur scène, la gouache, l’envie, et toujours ce public qui me fascine toujours autant… Pourvu que je ne m’en lasse pas, que je n’oublie pas que c’est entouré de ces pairs que l’on se rend compte de la magie et de la communion qu’il peut y avoir dans un concert…
With only being late « fashionably » (meaning a couple of minutes), the Counting Crows, Band born in the early 90’s are arriving on stage, with envy, happiness andas usual this incredible audience that amaze me everytime… Let me never forget how sweet it is to see live gigs in here.. and this makes me realise how this creates great concerts…

Les Counting Crows, bien qu’inconnu pour beaucoup, possèdent une place importante dans ma petite vie… 2 petites chansons.. ce n’est pas grand chose en soi, 7mn de temps compilé, 7mn de moments mémorables de 2 époques fortement différentes mais qui forcément, font un peu de moi ce que je suis… les musiciens, en attendant, sont le sourire aux lèvres, accesoirement vraiment très bon… et Adam Duritz, le lead singer, en train de vraiment rentrer dans les chansons, dans le concert, racontant avec une foi communicative des morceaux de sa vie… ♪ « If Dreams are like movies, then movies are are films about ghost/ You can never Escape, you can only move south down the coast » ♪
The Counting Crows, eventough not know for most of you, have an important part in my life, not only the musical one… 2 little songs.. It’s not much.. it’s wha.. 7mns of unforgettable moments in 2 very different moment that partly makes me what I am now… The musicians, are smilig and playing with the audience, while Adam Duritz, the lead singer, is really starting to dive into the lyric, singing with a real faith parts of his life…  ♪ « If Dreams are like movies, then movies are are films about ghost/ You can never Escape, you can only move south down the coast » ♪

Le 1er morceau qui me marquera vraiment, à rapport à mon adolescence, cette période innocente où on se construit.. et ce morceau.. simple, au piano… et ces paroles…. tellement simple mais tellement vrai.. ne sera pas joué ce soir… pas vraiment certain de vouloir l’entendre non plus… bien que je sais que cela m’aurait un peu retourné, c’est aussi un bon moyen de rester dans le concert… et de ne pas devenir une groupie au bord des larmes ♪ « I may take a Holiday in Spain/ Leave my wings behind me/ Flush my worries down the drain/ And fly away to somewhere new »♪

La 2ème chanson, est forcément interprété, après tout, il ne peut en être autrement… Là aussi un très très bon souvenir que cette chanson, pour des dizaines de raisons d’ailleurs, mais que des souvenirs qui remontent, qui font plaisir, un temps pas si ancien, où de nombreuses et belles choses se passaient au quotidien, loin d’être nostalgique, ça me rappel au réel, au fait qu’aujourd’hui aussi, je suis heureux, en plein accomplissement personnel et que le meilleur reste à venir… ♪ « She’s Suddenly Beautiful/ We all want something beautiful/ I wish I was beautiful/ So come dance this silence down through the morning/ Cut Maria, show me some of them Spanish dances/ Pass me a bottle Mr. Jones/ Believe in Me/ Help Me Believe in anything/ I want to be someone who believes » ♪

J’en profite, tant que j’arrive à rester debout, c’est pas plus bête que cela.

Les Flogging Molly…. groupe de rock, americano/irlandais celtique punk… On se souvient des Dropkick Murphys il y a quelques semaines.. ben pareil.. même concept… des musiques qui donnent envie de bouger, de sauter partout, et surtout, de reprendre en choeur des chansons qui nous parlent forcément Dave King, le lead Singer, est charismatique, et est manifestement sur scène pour prendre du plaisir, un plaisir communicatif l’AB.. jusqu’à présent c’est les Plain White T’s, The Cult, KT Tunstall, The Kills et bientôt Cat Power, Counting Crows…. wouhou Mais avant cela, y’a eût « Pepper », un groupe, je cite « de ska Hawaïen »… cela ne s’invente pas…. On se retrouve avec, sur scène 2 pseudo Kelly Slater se déchainant sur leur guitare respective.. ah ouais.. quand même… et pourtant.. ca commence à jouer avec le public.. a ouvrir une canette sur la scène… ah ouais.. quand même….

Les Kens en feuuuulie reprenaient gentiment leur titres les plus connus… c’est quand même du bon gros son bien lourd… note pour plus tard… le centre de l’AB est plus propice à ne pas avoir les oreilles en choux (de bruxelles) fleur à cause de la proximité relative du sound system sur les côtés

Toujours est il que c t pas trop « ska », et heureusement au fond, car ce n’est pas trop ma tasse de thé sinon. On reconnait par moment une base de ska/dub, mais le déchainement de guitarsssssss et de batteries prends le dessus assez vite…

Le temps de démonter le set.. d’attendre un peu… et je prévois le coup.. je m’écarte quand même un peu du centre et de la barrière devant la scène.. Je me suis fait avoir au Dropkick Murphys… si je peut éviter de quitter la salle avec des coups de coudes dans les gencives et là… effectivement… les lumières se tamisent… et The Who avec « Teenage Wasteland » est entonné par les speakers et le public… et ca me fait penser à House M.D…. allez comprendre ce genre d’automatisme… et là.. encore une fois.. wouhouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Ce qui y’a de bien dans ce genre de concert, c’est le côté totalement non prétentieux des musicos… ils ne se la joue pas, ils sont heureux d’être là, avec un public conquis et super réactif.. Je le dis à chaque fois.. mais franchement… Le public ici est juste incroyable… ce qui rend probablement ces concerts si prenant.. outre le prix tout piti ^^

L’AB était encore bien full.. même si bon… pas sold out.. étonnant que se le fûsse pour les Dropkick et pas pour eux.. va comprendre… et donc les chansons s’enchainent, les moments où ils racontent l’hisoire de la chanson, où il communique avec le public….

Je passe le nombre de Guinness qu’il s’ouvrira sur scène… assez hallucinant.. les riffs se suivent, l’ambiance monte… les classiques sont joués, repris, criés, dansés…. je prends du plaisir à entonner des airs à tendance celtique… une heure 1/2 de fougue, de puissance, de joie dans la tête… ils reviennent le 7 juillet aux ardentes… possible que je fasse des pieds et des mains pr aller les voir ^^ Ca a sauté dans tous les sens.. et ca se voit.. je passe sur le bassisste qui finira par plonger dans la foule… échangeant meme sa chemise avec un des gars de la salle…. l’hallu… et je ressors, heureux, as usual…

Allez hop, encore un concert.. promis maintenant quelques semaines de repos s’annoncent devant moi pour ne pas garder ce rythme effrené… :p ce soir donc, KT Tunstall, Ecossaise, musicienne polymorphe, souriant et douée, viens à l’AB faire un showcase dans une salle qui devient un peu comme mon jardin… Je ne sais même plus « tout » ce que j’ai été voir.. les Plain White T’s, The Cult, The Kills et sont plannifié les « Flogging Molly », les « Counting Crows » et Cat Power.. wouhou!!!! Toujours est il que du coup, encore un concert Sold Out, encore une fois j’ai eût un ticket, mais de justesse…..
So here I am at a new concert… I swear after this one I’ll have some weeks to rest a little bit in order to avoid keeping this impressive gig timing :p Tonite, KT Tunstall, Scot, Musician, smiling and talented, is coming to the AB to do a show in a place that is kinda becoming my garden lately… Can’t even remember in 4 months… Plain White T’s, The Cult, The Kills, and are planned the « Flogging Molly », the « Counting Crows » and Cat power! And right now, it’s once again a Sold Old concert I’m going to see, even if I had my ticket nearly before today….

Parce que, bizarrement, je me suis dis que « arfff, mais naaaann », ca allait pas etre Sold Out, et que donc il n’y avait pas urgence.. sauf que si… au moment où j’ai voulu.. sur le site « sold out » apparaissait… *Grrrrrrrr* (grognement gromellant). Du coup, 2 choix se dessinait, où aller la voir le lendemain à Lille (qui n’est, au fond, qu’a 45minutes de BXL, pour parler aux Hommes, c’est a une mi temps de foot quoi.. ), où alors, être sur la « waiting list » et esperer des désistements… La mignonne rouquinne est toujours là, je l’imagine être d’origine Gaëllique, allez savoir pourquoi..(vieux cliché?), mais cette fois ci, elle me dit « a priori vous avez vos chances car la liste n’est pas bien longue »… Banco, lançons nous… Au pire des cas, un concert de loupé, c’est pas la fin d’mon blog non plus hein.. :p
Oddly enough, I told myself « naaaa, c’mon, it won’t be sold out » and so I don’t need to buy my tickets right now… Or so I thought… Until the harsh moment « Sold out » appears on the AB website…. *grrrrrrr* (dat’s me grumbling by the way). So here I was, in front of 2 choices… Either go see her in Lille, a town 45minutes away of here in France (wich is, actually, only 45 minutes away from BXL… To talk « Men », it’s a football half time away from my place ^^) Or being on the « waiting list » and hope for people not paying their tixs on time… The cute red haired was still here (cliché makes me think she’s from any Gaellic country.. who knows…), but this time, she tells me « well, on the waiting list, u have ur chances to get a tik ».. ok.. let’s play and let fate decide.. The worst scenario would be to miss a concert.. it won’t be the end of my blog trust me :p

Mais ce ne fût pas le cas, un jour avant le concert, hop là un petit coup de fil « oui bonnnnnjourrrrrRRrr, vous zetes sur là lizte d’attente » (oui, j’écris super mal une pseudo imitation d’un accent flamand), et du coup, j’avais mon billet Wouhouuuu!!! Toujours est il que du coup, sold out, et ca se voit, j’arrive alors que la 1ere partie à déjà commencé… Tom Baxter, sympathique, il me fait penser un peu à du Donovan Frankeneiter avec un soupçon de jeff Buckley… Tom, sa guitare, son percutionniste. Belle entame cela dit.
But it’s not the end of the story (tada). The day before the gig, a phone call « hello, yes, u were on the waiting list blablabla ». And so I had my ticket for a Sold Out concert ^^ And u see the difference, I arrive, the support act already begun… Tom Baxter… Reminds me a mix between Donovan Frankeneiter and Jeff Buckley, nice tough.. Tom, his guitar, and the percutionnist guy.

Très peu d’attente (c’est fort rare), et la « traditionnelle » séquence de « je me replace a un emplacement correcte pendant que tous ses jeunes vont prendre une bière ».. D’ailleurs ouais, j’étais presque entouré de djeuns.. les fameux… encore une fois… des djeuns limite « j’ai la coupe dans le vent, tu ne peut comprendre pourquoi ce pull rose se marie si bien avec ce collier saumon »… wow… Bref, du coup, recentrage vers la scène, en longitutde comme en lattitude d’ailleurs… Me fait toujours bien marrer ce petit mouvement, ce coté « je préfere aller prendre des binouzes et me retrouver au fond derrière un gars qui fait 2 fois ma taille en hauteur comme en largeur plutot que de ne pas avoir un mauvaise biere pression hors de prix »…
For once it was really quick between the support act and the gig… And there was the traditionnal « Let me take a good sport while those young fellas are going to grab a beer »… Oww and yeah, was kinda surrounded by teen.. nonetheless, finding a nice spot.. Always loved the idea « I prefer to have a beer and finish way behind a lad twice my size than not drinking »

Toujours est il que du coup, peu d’attente, et voilà toute l’équipe qui monte sur scène, un bassiste/contre-bassiste, guitariste, percutionniste, pianiste, 2 demoiselles pour faire les choeurs…wow… sympatoche dis donc, moi qui l’imaginais presque seule avec sa boite à musique… Souriante, s’essayant à dire « Bonsoir Bruxelles » en flamand… ce qui me ramène à mon statut d’expatrié ne parlant absolument pas le flamand… arfff.. 3 langues c’est déjà pas mal tsss… j’avais pas le choix « flamand » dans ma jeunesse ^^ La vie est mal faites parfois ^^
So not that much to wait, dat’s a good thing ^^ and all the crew was going on stage.. a bassist, a guitarist, a drumer, a pianist, 2 vocalist.. wow… good stuff… Strangely I thought she would almost be on her own with a beat box… Smiling, trying a « evening Brussels » in flamish.. that didn’t really ring a bell considering that I’m an expat in here and therefore I unfortunately don’t speak a word of flamish

Toujours est il que du coup, on partait pour un concert sympatique et débordant de bons sentiments (pas mielleux attention, des bons sentiments sincères quoi). Ce sont clairement des bons musicos qui l’accompagne, ce sont des morceaux qui s’enchainent, elle qui s’amuse à dire que là, elle a une corde « de film d’horreur » (super grave)… et que du coup, elle prends son temps pour la réaccorder d’elle même…comme si de rien n’était, dos au public certes, nous permettant d’encourager le moment… A tel point que le bassiste, autrichien, se mets à parler en allemand pour combler… puis KT reviens vers son micro… « tu ne leur a pas dit.. tu sais »… lui « non, évidemment ».. elle « nan, mais sérieusement, il ne faut pas qu’ils sachent… imagine!!! » puis ils enchainent sur un autre titre ^^ bonne ambiance, pleine d’énergie et d’ondes positives.
The start of a nice concert, funny, loads of nice moments. She’s clearly with really good musicians, the tracks are really ok, everything is smoothingly following one to each other… She almost start a song.. then stopped.. « we have a horror film string »…. (deep bass cord).. « let me make it a nicer movie will ya? » and so she just turned near a speaker, and, on her own, changed it to a nicer sound… astonishingly refreshing ^^ good vibes and attitude, a delightful moment.

Puis vint le moment du « random fact », je n’étais pas au courant, c’était n’importe quoi, inatendu, et c’est probablement cela qui est bon en fait ^^ L’idée si j’ai bien suivi étant ni plus ni moins d’énoncé une vérité méconnue, dont le seul intéret est de le savoir et de ne jamais pouvoir le ressortir ailleurs ^^ Parce que là, clairement, je vois pas comment je peut parler des grenouilles qui sortent leur estomac quand elles ont trop mangé pour enlevé le surplus avant de tout remettre à l’intérieur (ah ben si tiens, je viens de le faire, prions pr que ce morceau de paragraphe ne soit pas indexé par google hein…)
Then came the random fact moment, wasn’t aware of this tradition, she’s just talking about a real random facts, tonite, frogs.. frogs, when they ate too much, are putting their guts out through the throat, to clean the unecessary stuff, before swallowing everything.. Ok.. good to know.. but hard to say in a conversation (OK.. I just did.. beat that :p)

Apres le magnifique moment où elle se retrouva seule avec sa guitare pour faire son hit « Black horse and cherry tree », elle enchaine sur le piano « tellement d’années de cours de piano, mais juste UNE chanson » héhé.. que je la comprends dis donc :-# (Mum, si tu lis ce paragraphe, fais comme s’il n’existait pas.. C la honte toussa je sais… faudrait que je reprennes… etc…)

Bref, vraiment une interaction hallucinante, elle est bien drôle, et super mignonne… moi je vous le dis, les fossettes, y’a que ca de vrai.. (dit il en montrant les 2 siennes), et là, en plus avec du talent… par contre, si j’ai bien suivit, elle est fiancé au batteur.. qui ressemble pas à grand chose.. mais bon… qui suis je pour juger, c’est l’intérieur qui prime hein :p
To sum up, she’s funny, damn good musician, über cute (it’s the dimples, wha can I say… so he says showing of his 2 dimples) and definitely talented.. but engaged to the drummer.. who really doesn’t have anything spectacular (but I know ladies, it’s on the inside blabla :p )

Toujours est il que se sera un bon souvenir, super dynamique, super enjoué, limite fêtard, je resigne dès que possible (elle est au festival de Werchter, mais bon… ouch le prix et « l’accomodation »)… Au pire des cas, photos & vidéos —>

So here I am, back at the « AB », the Ancienne Belgique, the concert place i’m loving a lil bit more everytime I’m going there… not big, good sound, nice musicians.. what else can u ask more than that?? Today…? « The Kills »… who??? C’monnnn… plizzz.. don’t tell me u don’t know hem… The Kills are 2 people, « VV » the lady lead singer, US, and « Hotel », the guitarist vocal UK guy… U might have known VV from a featuring she made on the Placebo tracks « Meds » she made… wha kind of music are the Kills? dunno the « official » name, but let’s say it’s like the white stripes, lil more trashy/powerful… Before that, as a « aperitif », a belgium group… called.. « the Germans« .. yeah.. dont ask why.. I dunno.. lol.. strange.. destructured music… but a nice moment though…
Et me voilà de retour à l’AB, l’ancienne Belgique, la p’tite salle de concert que j’aime de plus en plus à chaque fois… Limite intimiste, bon son, bonne programmation.. que peut on demander de plus honnetement?? aujourd’hui? « The Kills »…!!!! qui?? arfff.. me dites pas que vous ne connaissez pas…. A la limite, peut etre que vous connaissez VV, la chanteuse, americaine, pour avoir fait un duo avec Placebo sur le morceau « Meds »… son acolyte sur la scène, « Hotel », anglais et guitariste… le style est pour faire simple « White stripes + trash et + puissant »!!! en 1ere partie, un groupe belge, qui s’appelle « the Germans« , oui, ne me demandez pas pkoi ce nom alors qu’ils sont belge… musique déstructuré, bizarre de 1er abord mais sympatoche au final ^^

And then after a kinda huge half hour waiting for them to pack their stuff (that’s what nice when ur in a 1st part of a gig like that), the 2 lads are arriving on stage.. like… it’s usual, it’s « just us », hello ‘vrybody… Like total pure coolness ^^
Puis enfin, apres une grosse demi heure le temps que la 1ere partie démonte son matériel par lui même (du bonheur d’être une premiere partie) les 2 protagonistes du soir arrivent tranquillement sur scène, sans se prendre le chignon genre « normal, content que vous soyez là ».. la coolitude totale ^^

Starting with the « U R a fever » track, the 1st one of the new album, niiiiiiice and it was really a good start, simple, new (the album was only one week old in stores), the nite was starting very well ^^

It’s really strange how just 2 people on stage can make a music that is not « complicated » musically per say, but just makes everyone enjoying it, by big riffs, stong basics and kinda a lot of charisma ^^ really, I’m sure not a lot of u have ever heard them, got to say it’s a shame, cause really, this was just a great gig ^^, and U can hear it in the videos!!
C’est juste bizarre de se rendre compte que sur une scène, ces 2 personnes, qui ne font pas une musique « compliquée » techniquement, arrivent à transporter une salle avec des bases solides, de gros riffs, et surtout, un enorme charisme ^^ Vraiment, Je suis que beaucoup ne connaissent absolument pas The Kills, et pourtant, c’était vraiment un super concert, plein de fougues et de puissance… et cela s’entend sur les vidéos!!!

Amazingly enough, the public wasn’t that young or « True Rocker inside » style… just people that were enjoying the gig, it was really crowded, not sold out, but propably really close to be… and the relation between them is just so simple, like, everything make sense, for the record, she’s american, he’s british, they were working in 2 different groups, that split… and they start working together, sending each other tapes over the ocean… like.. really tapes… and then she decided it would be easier to work if she was travelling to england, and here are the Kills…
Etrangement le public n’est pas si « jeune » que ca, pas trop de « je suis grave un Rocker à l’intérieur tu vois… juste des personnes qui sont là, et qui apprécient à mort ce qui se passe devant eux.. Ca n’était pas complet, mais en tout cas c’était bien remplit…. Et là relation entre ses 2 là, juste…. « évidente », tout prends du sens, au départ, il est anglais, elle americaine, ils travaillent dans 2 groupes différents, qui se séparent, et commencent à s’échanger des cassettes (genre… des cassettes quoi!!!) entre un pays et l’autre, jusqu’a ce qu’elle décide que se serait plus pratique si elle bougeait plus pres.. et voilà.. the Kills naissait…

Everything went well.. Tout s’emballa… Il finira par faire semblant de la tabasser avec sa guitare, bien qu’avant il a fait semblant de prendre sa guitare comme un fusil et de lui tirer dans la tete, il lui mis aussi 2 coups de boules (des faux hein).. mais c probablement pr ca qu’a la fin ils rigolèrent, montrant que tout cela, ce n’est que du cinéma, et nullement une volonté/impulsion destructrice, juste démontré la symbiose du « couple » musical (qui n’en est pas un dans la vie)
